Too much of a good thing....

Girl_scout_cookies_2_2Too much of a good thing...that is right I'm talking about Girl Scout cookies. In particular I'm talking about my favs Tagalongs!

Yesterday I was not sure what I wanted to make for dinner so I decided to have a little snack...so I went to my freezer and got out a box of Girl Scout Cookies and then of course a big glass of milk...before I knew it half the box was gone. Yep! I said half of the box...just me....now my dog did work very hard at trying to get me to give him a bite but that was not going to happen. Besides chocolate is bad for dogs and good for humans - right!

Well not only did I spoil my dinner last night but I woke upGirl_scout_cookies this morning with a terrible stomach ache...my only logical thought was...I should not have eaten half a box of Girl Scout cookies all at once. Moms are so right when they tell us "not to spoil our dinner" and "don't eat to much that will give you a tummy ache". Too much of a good thing...can make you feel not so good the next day...so have a Girl Scout cookie for me today because my tummy needs a break. :-)

Will Work For Food....

Work_for_food_2 It is rare to go one week without seeing the words "Will Work For Food" scratched on a piece of cardboard or to drive past someone that is carrying all they own on their back....

I have been challenged lately to be more aware of my surroundings and to pay attention to the opportunities we have each day to make a difference. You know to do things for other people without an agenda...not expecting anything in return but to be human and treat another human with respect and kindness.

As I have been challenged to be more aware of my surroundings and opportunities to get involved…things have starting happening around me….or maybe I actually took notice of them for the first time. A couple weeks ago I had just left the grocery store and noticed a man with a “will work for food” sign at the end of the parking lot. The moment I noticed him…so many things went through my head…I should do something….I have a lot to do today….I need to get home…I have so much to get done today…I’m tired....I think I have $2 cash with me and that isn’t going to do much to help…..and on and on. So I drove by and did nothing. That moment stuck with me…it made me sad to think that I didn’t try to do something even something small.

Yesterday as I was pulling into the grocery store parking lot I noticed on the other side of the parking lot - three people standing on the corner with a sign “will work for food” and in that moment I knew that I had to do something this time…but once again I only had a couple dollars in cash with me so I decided that I would pick up a few extra things for them when I got my stuff. I went about my grocery shopping and had fun picking out some sandwich stuff, water and other snacks for them. Unfortunately I took to long in the store…so by the time I got back outside and had my bag of food ready for them they had already left. I was bummed… I drove around the block to try and find them…but they were gone. It's often said...it's the thought that counts but I don't feel like what I did counted much at all.

Crocs Rock!

Jr_crocs_3 Okay Crocs fans....I FINALLY tried them on today! Yes - my name is Jennifer and I have never put a pair of Crocs on my feet before...that is until today.

Crocs_2Thanks to Lyn and her Crocs contact for my Dale Jr Crocs!!! That is the great thing...if I'm going to try them on I might as well go all out with my favorite NASCAR driver. I was very surprised with how great they feel.

Jelly_shoesTo me Crocs always looked like they would be super uncomfortable...like the plastic jelly shoes I had as a kid that left little ring marks on your feet and made your feet smell bad. So I was very surprised that the Crocs are so comfy - I have house slippers that don't feel this great!

Cultivate Inner Beauty...

Mirror Yesterday was just one of those days...ladies I'm sure you know what it is like. No matter what clothes you try on nothing seems to fit just right, you hair doesn't want to work with you and the list could go on with the things you don't like about the way you look. This was my experience yesterday as I prepared for an evening out with the ladies to watch the Academy Awards...my poor feelings about the way I looked almost kept me from going to the party but thankfully I didn't do the easy thing and stay home in my comfy clothes because I would have miss out on not only a fun time with new friends but also on an important reminder from God. As the night ended the host of the party gave each of us a gift and in this gift of chocolate she included a verse and it was just the reminder that I really needed.

"Be captivating by your life of holy beauty. What matters is not your outer appearance - the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes - but your inner disposition. Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in."
1 Peter 3:3-4

Isn't it great to be reminded that even when we don't feel beautiful when we look in the mirror that the reflection God sees of us is MUCH different.
