Spring Fever

Spring_2Spring Fever is defined as:  A feeling of restlessness, excitement, or laziness brought on by the coming of spring.

Today is the first official day of Spring. Do you have the fever? I have had the fever for about a week or more...every time we get one really nice day and then the next day snow. It is like we are getting a tease of how great Spring is going to be this year.

I'm new to the changing of seasons in Colorado because I grew up in the Midwest. One of my favorite things about Spring is the new life that begins. You know the flowers that begin to show signs of life and the grass that starts to turn green again. Fresh cut grass it the best smell ever...it means that it is time again to drive around with the windows down and enjoy the fresh air.

What is your favorite thing about Spring? Is it a smell? A feeling? Something you do every year?

I don't like Peeps...

Peeps I'm not a big fan of peeps...I was the kid that would trade peeps with a friend at school for something else - like chocolate! Which always made the other kid happy because they were usually a big fan of peeps and could not get enough of them.

Aipeeps_2 The only time I enjoyed peeps was the time a friend of mine showed me how to make them "grow" in the microwave.  Today I found some people that took the use of peeps to an entirely new level.

The Seattle Times had a competition that challenged their readers to turn peeps into pieces of pop culture. The results are hilarious and very creative! One of my favorites has to be the American Idol Judges. I love how they even have Simon in a grey shirt...because we all know Simon only wears grey or black.

Hannah_peeptana_live_3 Another favorite of mine was the "Hannah Peeptana Live" that two little girls ages 7 and 9 created. I can only imagine how long it must have taken them to setup all the peeps in the crowd.

I'm not sure if the people that created the peep art enjoy eating them or not but it is fun to see all the other possible uses of the nasty tasting peeps.

Jennifer and Peanut Butter

Jif_2 Okay - so I grew up in the Midwest on Jif peanut butter or the generic store brand of peanut butter....so I've very new to the "all natural food" so our resident healthy eating expert Bailey is doing what she can to point out that not all healthy food tastes bad. This is a video of my all natural peanut butter experience. Hope you enjoy!

Get paid to play Guitar Hero III....really?

Guitar_hero_2 I was reading today that this Saturday a video game store is going to have a Guitar Hero III tournament with a national grand prize of $2,000 (in store credit not cash). Players will compete by single elimination in best 2 out of 3 matches. Then the top player from each store plays a predetermined  song on the Expert level.

I was all ready to sign up and show off my skills UNTIL all the Expert level talk. :-) Why can't they have a tournament for the Easy level people that are working on graduating to the Medium level. I'm always so impressed when I watch friends play Guitar Hero on the Expert level because I dream of the day that I will be that good. Sure it will be really far in the future because when I play on the Easy level the music you hear the most is "dink" "dink" "dink" and then the crowd gets upset and my game is over. Okay so it's not always that bad but after I play the song 10 times that next time is amazing. After all I did open up the next level of songs on the easy level all by myself [mostly]  :-)

No List Required

The headline read: The Vatican Adds to List of Sins.  The article went on to say that “in medieval times, the seven deadly sins included gluttony, lust and sloth. Now the Vatican is updating its list of evils to include drug use, pollution, genetic experimentation and imbalances between the rich and poor.”   Checklist_2 Updating the list of sins?  Don’t act surprised.   And this isn’t about Catholicism.  We all have our list.  We love lists, so why not?  Your list may include actual sins, some that are not; some obvious, others creatively omitted.  While God does point out some things we are to avoid, is He really prescribing a list to follow?  Didn’t Jesus sacrifice His life to free us from all that pertained to trying to keep the list (a.k.a. The Law)? It was necessary, because we couldn't even come close to accomplishing that list.  So, if there's no list... what's a list-keeper to do?  Care for and thrive in—the relationship.  The wonderfully list-freeing, loved-always-by-the-One-who-created-you, personal relationship we can all have.  So, come on, let's have the list... now begin doing what's right for the relationship.   No list required.

Is your name easy to spell?

Birth_certif_texting_4 Thankfully I have an easy name to spell...you can't mess up Jennifer. If you have a name that has a unique spelling I'm sure you get tired of telling people how to spell it and sometimes even how to say your name. Some days you may have even wished you had a different name.

My name is simple and common and at times I did wish it was different. Like my freshman year in college when 8 girls on my dorm room floor all had the same first and middle name....yep...not fun...that entire first year of college I was known by my last name.

The latest study is now saying that the reason we see such a wide range in spellings in a few popular names is due in large part to the fact that we spend so much time texting.  One analyst was even quoted as saying that "the use of a 'y' instead of an 'i' has hit epidemic proportions, as has the use of 'k' over 'c'." Realistically, we're not about to believe the SMS craze is actually affecting children's names en masse, but please, don't our names need the vowels they deserve.

Jnnfr :-)
